Monitoring report

The periodic submission that documents measured results for a defined period, forming the basis for verification and issuance.

A monitoring report presents what happened during a monitoring period: activity data, emission reductions or removals achieved, methods used, deviations from the plan, and the uncertainty attached to each figure.

It is the document a verifier tests. Claims made here become credited units, so every number should be traceable to a data source and every deviation should be explained rather than quietly absorbed.

Common weaknesses are inherited from upstream: a table of results with no uncertainty, changes in method with no restatement of prior periods, and boundaries that shift between reports without disclosure.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a monitoring period?

Usually one to several years, set by the methodology and the project's crediting cycle.

Can a monitoring report be revised?

Corrections are possible but must be documented and, where material, reflected in subsequent issuance.
