Carbon credit rating

An independent assessment scoring a project or credit against integrity criteria, used as a due-diligence input.

Rating agencies evaluate projects on additionality, baseline plausibility, monitoring quality, permanence and social safeguards, then publish a comparative score or grade.

Ratings are judgements, not guarantees. Their value lies in making assumptions explicit and comparable, which is why buyers increasingly require them alongside verification statements.

Frequently asked questions

Does a high rating remove risk?

No. It reduces information asymmetry, but delivery and policy risks remain.

How do ratings differ from verification?

Verification checks reported results against a methodology; rating assesses the credibility of the whole proposition.
