Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM)
A governance body that assesses whether carbon-crediting methodologies meet a set of core integrity principles.
The council reviews methodologies against published criteria covering additionality, baseline setting, permanence, robust quantification and governance, and labels those that pass.
Its assessments operate at methodology level, not project level. A label indicates that the rulebook is sound; it does not certify that any particular project applied it well.
Frequently asked questions
Does the label guarantee credit quality?
No. It speaks to the methodology. Project-level performance still requires verification and due diligence.
Why methodology-level assessment?
Because systemic weaknesses are inherited from rules, not from individual project execution.
