Crediting period

The defined window during which a project may generate credits before renewal or revalidation is required.

A crediting period bounds the claim. Set typically at five to ten years, often renewable, it determines how long a baseline remains valid and how often the design is re-examined.

Renewal is a control point. Baselines must be reassessed, since circumstances change and a baseline that was credible a decade ago may no longer be. Programmes differ on whether the original baseline may be retained.

Frequently asked questions

How many times can it be renewed?

Rules vary by standard, with some limiting total duration and others requiring fresh baselines each cycle.

What happens at the boundary?

Reporting stops or restarts under new terms; results must not be double counted across periods.
